Internet problem

Post by Callan S. »

Bit of a boring topic, but

I'm trying to get to
http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/

But all I get is a big white page with
It works!
on it

Ages ago I used to get problems, presumably from my router, so pages wouldn't load and stuff - I eventually found a solution to fix some numbers in the properties, but I can't remember it now. Not that I've changed anything since then. This coming up is kind of similar - I've turned off, come back the next day, it's still there.

Anyone familiar with this sort of prob?

Did you look at the page's source? If it has opening and closing <html> tags and everything inbetween, it sounds like you either caught them doing some updates or after a hack. If the source is broken and incomplete, it may be an internet problem and you are only getting a fragment of the page.

The source looks complete

Code: Select all

<html><body><h1>It works!</h1></body></html>
Really odd...

I'd try to clear local cashe files in your browser, and try a forced refresh (ctr+F5 or ctrl+r).
Might also be that someone messed with your computer's DNS cache. Here's a guide on how to clear it on windows. If you don't use windows then google DNS cache :)

Hmm, no such luck, still not working.

I remember doing stuff like that last time my computer had trouble bringing up sites (didn't work).

It seems strange your computer could be the culprit. Have you tried accessing the page from somewhere else and it worked as expected? I just don't know what could go wrong on your internet or your computer to turn a full webpage into a well-formed but mostly empty page saying "It worked".

You know, I'm looking at my connections internet protocol (TCP/IP) and I'd swear ages back when I solved my previous problem, it was by entering some values I found on a solutions page, in there. Instead of obtaining the IP and DNS automatically. I can't remember perfectly, but I'm pretty sure I did that. But now it's back to automatically finding both, wih no values in the boxes?

I'm going to have to try and find that solutions page, atleast.
