Hi, as I`m a big fan of Guild Wars, I recently check their site. Turns out they`re offering several internships for those interested in game development, both for Art as well as Programming. You`ll need to meet some prerequisites but if you meet them, you`ll have a fair chance I suppose on getting it.

It`s an internship, pays 14$ an hour, it`s a year long program. It`s a normal working week, so from monday to friday`s. There`s some other requirements to meet: you`ll have to move to the Seatlle area, at your own expense, maybe consider hiring an appartment ( you`ll get paid, right? )

But other then that, it`s a great learning experience I suppose. You`ll work a year on all kinds of things, from art to programming, you`ll learn from the best in game industries, you`ll learn about modelling, designing, character creation, game mechanisms, game logic et cetera. I mean, that`s ffing cool right?

Anyway, I`d definitely choose it if I were a student or looking for something totally cool and new.

Really, paid internships are few and far between, and $14/hour is terrific for one. Typically, your pay for an internship is the knowledge you gain and the experience to add to your resume, so this is a huge plus. If I was in that kind of position and was wanting a job in the game industry, I would definitely apply. I highly suggest it for anyone who has aspirations to work in the game field!

I've had an internship in the game industry lasting 1 year, though in Norway not in the US. And I agree, $14/hour is good for this type of internship. I was paid about $635/month from the game studio, but we have a decent government backed student stipend here in Norway, so I had another $1100 or so per moth on top of the $635.

It's a fun experience, you learn fast, and get to know how a game is created over a longer period of time. Internships are the only way of getting into the gaming industry without much prior knowledge or experience. I had none when I started. I was a bit unlucky with the timing on when my year was over, summer 2008. As with lots of other companies, the studio I was working for had literally no more money because of the financial crisis, so they couldn't hire me after my internship.

I decided to get some proper education instead, and I now have 1 year left on a bachelors degree. I've had another internship this summer lasting 6 weeks in a large IT consultant firm, again this was a fun learning experience, and I got a good job offer from them that I signed a couple days ago! I probably wouldn't have gotten a job offer this early if not for the summer internship...

Based on my experiences, I'd say that if you ever get a chance to join an internship, go for it! If you're wondering whether to apply or not, do it! You've got nothing to loose on applying. If you are unsure if it's what you really want, apply. You can still say no later.
