Westward! Online game based on Oregon Trail.

[Age of Fable]

Hi everyone,

After a couple of false starts, I've finally got something finished.

The game is called Westward!, and it's based on an early version of Oregon Trail.

I've heard alot about oregon trail, but never played it before (never saw it on an Australian school computer). That was fun to play! Though I thought you got to kill hundreds of buffalo in oregon trail...lol!

You've changed it since I last played...

What would be cool is if you do use the database, but just to record a headstone that other players see as they travel by. When you die, have a series of preset messages you can choose from for your headstone and it records final stats/reason for death.

BTW, the former soldier says it starts with $200, but then when you go in you have $250

Also this time around, playing a former soldier, I seem to fail more often at hunting than my first play through (where there were no classes).

As you said, I've added 'classes': you now play as a banker, farmer, or former soldier. The changes I've made should make it harder.

Thanks for the idea about the database. I might add it if the game gets enough interest.

Also this time around, playing a former soldier, I seem to fail more often at hunting than my first play through (where there were no classes).

That shouldn't happen (as the former soldier you should succeed at hunting 3/4 of the time, as opposed to 1/2 for the others). I've checked the code and it looks right, but If it keeps happening let me know.

awesome! I loved Oregon Trail so much had actually started apocalypse trail , a futuristic version but have not finished it yet. One of my many projects

Loved OT when I was a kid... bought the iphone version, but it's just ok.

Not sure about some of your checks in the game though. As a soldier, I hunted once and ended up with 188 bullets from 1000 and got nothing... that's pretty poor shooting.

Also, after two "eat moderately" and one "eat poorly", I died from starvation. Perhaps you could implement some numeric meters that gave an idea of how healthy you were.

Yeah, I've found eating poorly pretty much means an instant death sentence, too.
