ok progress has been slow but continuous!

I have finally got round to getting the basics of the forum up and running (making a new thread and posting replies) But its a milestone i am proud of achieving

with that said.

If you would like to spam the heck out of it (we all know you like doing these things)

everything on there is my own doing (some parts are ripped from other sources, but none the less edited to suit)

IE has issues using buttons as links, but i am not worried about that at the moment. Will address later on.

I am sure some of you are reading this and wondering why i decided to reinvent the wheel.

Well the reason is thus.

Firstly, because i seem to be able to :p. Although that bares some truth, the reason is because i wanted the challenge at doing so.

Secondly, I have much more control over features, ones i couldn't get or couldn't be bothered to figure out going through the code of current forum software.

Thirdly, Since i started messing around with my 1st PBBG I wanted to have a localized base in which i could feed all and any games i make (because i decided i was going to make LOADS LOL). Which lead me to developing the idea of a localized community for anyone who made a game. So having complete control over the entirety of my site, rather than using other software and battling forever to make something specific happen, will make it all much easier.

you could assign a html ancor where you display the posts, then add the ancor link on your redirect (i.e. viewTopic.php?fid=2&tid=1&#$postid), so after posting it will redirect the user to that post.

yea i still got alot of front end functions to work on as well as back end. The layout is temporary and will soon hold an embeded editor (click the edit box and the editor will replace the text... or so goes the plan lol). pagination needs to be done. direct linking needs to be done. more bbcodes and smilies need to be done.

i also plan on having some kinda type style setting. just to jazz up posts a little bit more, you can set default colours and font types which will appear when you post automatically so you dont have to manually change them if you want to be different.

but the main thing is that its working

Quick update.

new 'features' (currently offline @ time of posting)

jump to new post when posting.
directed to new thread when posting a new thread.
pagination on threads working. (from the forum view and thread view)

Pagination on forums for threads done.
Got a read/unread system in place. (may be temporary. See how it handles later on in life)

new features still offline, will put them online tomorrow at some point

Jump to last undread post on threads.
make the thread view abit prettier.

after the above (lol)...
work on the user options and viewing users (hopfully finalize the user database ready to to work on the API)
more BB codes and smilies


I have started a little blog for updates (whether it will be kept updated or not is to remain unknown :p lol)

Well after a cpl of nights break.

I am back with a quick update which will be my last for a while I think.

the main focus now has been on its look.

I have redone the forum index and shifted a few things about on that and made it look abit neater.

I have completed the pagination (well atleast i think i have lol) and thats all working nicely.

The only other real change is the topic view page. I have neatened that up and now includes icons for viewed, topics you have posted in etc. Also the stickies are slapped up the top of the page aswell. I still need to do announcements but that will be done soon enough


and yes well thats about it lol. I will be working on the post viewing page and making that look nice and neat tonight / tommorrow, then i will be working on the functionality of the forum to the point of editing, modding, splitting, merging etc posts.

I think once that has been done i will update this post once again with how it all went lol.
