FF XIII

Post by Torniquet »

fan of the FF series (cant say i have ever completed one but meh :p) so finially got round to buying a copy of number 13....

so far...

not very impressed :( !!!

wheres the leveling, wheres the tactics??!! Not played it for long, just been turned to a L'Cei, makes things abit more fun... but not in the good ol RPG tradition that FF is :(

I thought they kinda rocked the boat on 12 with their new battle system they introduced... this one takes the biscuite leaving behind no crumbs what so ever.

so as it stands number 13 falls right to the bottom of my list of FF favs.

sucks somewhat i gotta admit... had a number of people tell me it was all good :(

Yeah, I was incredibly disappointed with FFXIII. I really liked XII, as it finally got away from random, turn-based battles. It also became about as non-linear as a linear story-based RPG can get. But FFXIII just seemed to do a 180 from what XII was doing. The story went back to the FFX system of walking down straight paths, fighting one fight after another, watching cutscene after cutscene. But you at least had cities to explore in FFX. XIII has no towns to explore, at least up to 50% of the way through the game. You just walk down hall after hall, fighting battle after battle until you get to the next cutscene. The combat system was pretty good, but when that is 99% of the game, even that gets old. I am just hoping they learn from a lot of the negative feedback the game got, and try for something better with XV, which is currently in development.

if you like the FF series. play 7.

its the one i like most anyways. and i didnt want to play the others after.
cuz it looked like the FF whould lose alot of what 7 has.

besides, your going to the same class as sephiroth and even workout with him in a movie scene at begining. how cool isnt that.

ohh, and 7 has cocobo racers =)) aswell as other cool mini games.

I enjoyed FF 7 alot, but i have to admit i prefered 8 :p

i think the card game in 8 was so much fun lol.

I also liked 10, and 10-2. 10's sphere grid was cool, i thought it was a very nice way to customise your character, and also with the way you could customise your own abilities onto weapons and accessories. As for 10-2 i just like the garment grid idea lol :p

there is nothing wrong with random encounters lol. ok can be annoying trying to find battles when trying to level your character, but thats half the fun, not knowing what your going to come up against next lol. with 12 you could see exactly what was ahead of you and kinda spoilt the supprise.

I would just get incredibly frustrated with random battles, since if you walk the wrong way, that can be 5 extra battles when you are just wanting to find out what happens next. I guess that is just a fundamental difference between those who are ok with random battles and those that aren't. What I am fighting next is no surprise to me, as it doesn't make much difference to me. I would rather fight a set amount of battles to get from point A to point B. I think that random battles are gone for good, though, from the Final Fantasy series.
