Attention holiday jewelry shoppers

Folks in the USA may have seen these commercials that Jared: "The Galleria of Jewelry" have been running every 30 seconds or so. They advertise "Chocolate Diamonds" as a major holiday jewelry gift idea. Do not buy these from them if you were thinking about it! They are charging as much or more than clear, near-flawless diamonds, but they are worth nowhere near that. It seems they are charging around $900 - $1500 per caret for many small gems, when they should likely be closer to $400 per carat if even that. I guess they are assuming many people will think they are special since they are different, but different is a bad thing when it comes to diamonds.

I was a jeweler for a few years, and while I know it is probably a long-shot that someone here was planning on buying one as a gift this Christmas, I figured it was worth a mention since the buyer could probably save over $500 by buying a different "chocolate diamond" (actually called "amber diamonds") loose from a reputable gem dealer and having it set themselves. It would be a pity for someone to get scammed by the Wal-Mart of jewelry companies.

thanks for that! I wish I could work every industry for at least a year so I never get scammed and i understand things better but we all know that is impossible. But as a group we got most industries covered :) I hate the "He went to Jared" commercials..more like " He went to Jared, he must be a yuppie prick, and I am a shallow b$%ch for expecting him too" hehehehe

Thanks for the tip, it seemed kind of strange to me considering the diamond grading system.
