What does your screenshot say about you?

A few days ago, Nyaar, who recently joined us and posted his eagerly awaited code revamp, posted several screenshots of his code.

Me, being the inquisitive person I am, decided to investigate. Note that I did not know him at all from before. By using 1 screenshot, I was able to reconstruct his identity.

Nyaar later reviewed the article and suprisingly, only two accounts which I identified that belonged to him put of the dozens I proposed were not his. Apart from a few minor errors, everything else was correct. His comments are in red.

Only clue:
http://img.removedfromgame.com/imgs/revamp4.png

You can immediately see World of Warcraft at the bottom, along with several other communications programs. Notably, there is Ventrillo, combined with WoW, this suggests that Nyaar is an avid WoW player which is in a guild which uses Ventrillo.
Nyaar comment: Although the assumption could be made, in my case that's not entirely true. I just have a friend who's seriously into it and he made me start playing with him every now and then. Also, Ventrilo is a free way to contact some people and is used for several other MMOs I play as well. However, it's what I would've guessed too.

He has command prompt open, suggesting programming experience.

The time in the screen shot is 5:42pm, and the post was posted at 12:03am on Wednesday, that is 3 minutes past midnight, suggesting late night tendencies. No doubt, the screenshot was taken earlier that day.

Firefox:

The icon in the lower right of FF is of Greasemonkey, further supporting programming experience.

His FF theme is of a girl drawn in anime style. Research shows this is a theme of Touhou, created by Ivan Chou, titled "Touhou - Rumia" (Source: )
http://www.getpersonas.com/en-US/persona/178490

His RSS bar contains xkcd and VGcats, both are comics targeted at programmers. We can be nearly certain he is a programmer.

TH Nekokayou is another comic, targeted at Touhou enthusiasts.

Proceeding to his browser tabs, the first is Kingdom of Loathing, a text-based humorous browser game.

The next is a tab with a 'R' typographical favicon, from the website http://www.removedfromgame.com or one of its subdomains. The unconventional .txt file format as a title suggests it is a new/private domain. Nyaar may well own this domain. A whois search reveals that it was registered early this year, confirming suspicions:
Domain Name: REMOVEDFROMGAME.COM
Registrar: 1 & 1 INTERNET AG
Whois Server: whois.schlund.info
Referral URL: http://REGISTRAR.SCHLUND.INFO
Name Server: NS57.1AND1.COM
Name Server: NS58.1AND1.COM
Status: ok
Updated Date: 10-jan-2010
Creation Date: 10-jan-2010
Expiration Date: 10-jan-2011
1&1 Internet is a multi-national DSL provider, it is highly likely that Nyaar is a subscriber to their service, or he would have used a more reliable/well-known domain host. 1&1 is active in Germany, Austria, Britain, France, Poland, Spain and USA. Provided that Nyaar registered the domain, Nyaar resides in one of the above countries. Alternatively, he may have registered with 1&1 due to their $5 .com domain pricing, in which we conclude he is conservative with his money.

If Nyaar did not register the domain, it is highly likely that he personally knows the person who owns it due to their usage on only a few sites: (Source: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=c ... 4a6b447b62)
Nyaar comment: You got it. 1and1 is my host and domain provider. I do, in fact, own removedfromgame.com and all it's subdomains and all the sites were programmed from scratch by me.

Crescent Moon is probably related to his Touhou interests, lack of time resulted in truncation of this lead.
Nyaar comment: This is actually a wiki entry about a scythe named Crescent Moon for a action MMORPG called Vindictus. Good assumption though. =P

Lunatic Red is another Touhou community, established a long time ago, with many members.

RFG Image Uploader, is the service Nyaar used to host his screenshots, currently hosting 741 images. As described before, Nyaar possibly owns this domain. This website is http://www.omnimaga.org, the post is called "RFG Image Uploader" The exact article he had opened is here: http://omnimaga.org/index.php?topic=3861.0 This confirms all previous conclusions. His account on Omni is "{AP}"

a self-made Touhou themed moe banner. Confirms that he is an otaku.

His posts:

Running throughout his posts is a recurrent pink theme: he is immersed in the kawaii culture: (one of his web designs) http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/3855/pagedesign.png
Nyaar comment: I'm not sure about a 'recurrent' pink theme. Sure, I used pink in that particular design and in a few signatures, but it's not really common. Still, I do love 'kawaii' things so you make a point.

His login stats http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?actio ... =statPanel show most inactivity within 1am to 10am (OM forum time) This can be converted to GMT, and then overlaid to a map with the 1&1 service countries, to determine residence. Results indicate he is living within central US.

Running localhost, Confirms previous.

PHP script: uses a '/tutorial/' folder, means that there should be a few other folders within Localhost: he is a programmer with a lot of scripts lying around the place.

His search of PHP ternary operator suggests him trying to find details on the usage of it, meaning he does not know what it is , however, the operator is an advanced operator and thus, actually adds credibility that he is a skilled programmer.
Nyaar comment: I knew what it was beforehand, I'm just rusty. I haven't coded in PHP in awhile so I was double checking syntax. Nice catch though. I need to make a habit of deleting that text box up there. It would be embarrassing if some of my searches got out. >.<

Conclusions:
Name: Jeff Delgado

Residence: Away from parents
Nyaar comment: Technically, yes. Currently with guardians for a few weeks then I'll be out.

I used to work part-time at 4chan.

But seriously, every screenshot you post without blurring, reveals alot.

Most of the time Halls blurs his, or rather, place a big black box around the taskbar.

There is a reason to do this, and the threat is real, as I showed above. It only took half and hour to reconstruct all that.

I'm always worried about how much information I reveal. But that's the price you pay for just being on the internet. All of the fun stuff we do comes with some risk of identity theft or just plain privacy invasion. It's unfortunate

i have had my identity stolen 7 times. Total of $9000 but banks or visa has paid it all back and my credit already sucks so they can have a blast with that, they might even improve it ;)

I have always said bad credit is the only safe way to financial freedom. If you can't afford it you do not need it. Period. Please steal my identity, you are not getting anything :)
