Now we are less than 24 hours until the Penny Arcade Expo kicks off where Gearbox games have said that there will be a big annoucement... And rumors have been circling that the announcement is something Duke Nukem related...
Duke Nukem co-creator George Broussard said in a 2006 interview that reigning vaporware champ Duke Nukem Forever would be released "when pigs fly." Well, according to a recent tweet from the designer, you could see winged swine flapping past your window any day now.

The tweet, posted last night, is wordless and includes only a link to the image linked below. Whether or not the tweet is in reference to Duke Nukem Forever is unknown at this point, but recent rumors about the videogame-turned-punchline indicate we'll find out for sure soon.

In early August, speculation that Borderlands developer Gearbox Software had taken the reins on Duke Nukem Forever began to surface. The game was so close to completion, the story went, a playable demo would be available by the end of the year.

Asked about the rumor, Gearbox studio head Randy Pitchford declined to comment, but he couldn't help saying he would "better clarify the situation" at the Penny Arcade Expo -- which just happens to be kicking off tomorrow in Seattle.

Duke Nukem Forever has been in development since 1997 (that's not a typo). Here's what Broussard had to say in 2006 when 1Up interviewed him about the game:
GB: You know, we've been so busy on Duke Forever for so long that we can't really see past just finishing this game, but you never can tell when it's done, you know, what you want to work on next.

1UP: Wait, wait. You guys are working on Duke Forever?

GB: [Laughs] And ever and ever.

1UP: And when's that due out again?

GB: [Laughs] I think it'll be out when pigs fly.

Who knows if this is true or not, although i doubt it, i still have a tiny flicker of hope left that something good will come out this whole situation, but if this is more crap from the rumour factory then i say that it should just be left to die.

Edit: Just found this on kotaku:
Duke Nukem voice actor Jon St. John recently tweeted that he "is headed for PAX Seattle tomorrow."
Uhoh has that just strengthened the case? Will watch closely :P

Hey, if Nintendo is releasing the 3DS with Kid Icarus (not seen as a leading character since 1991) as a launch title, then Duke Nukem is fresh and ready for a sequel!

As far as DNF goes, how many times have the developers had to completely change core engines to keep up with current gen standards if the game has been in at last part-time production since it started? Four? Five? If it is being announced, I wonder if it is going to be a retro-style game with the old engine, or a competitive current-gen game.

Apparently they changed twice i think... DN3D engine -> Quake -> Super modded UNREAL 2... i can believe that, mainly cause it seems the delays were caused by george broussard being a complete arse, and everytime the team were getting somewhere, he would be like "Hey guys just played <Insert Game Name Here>, I think we could incorporate the <Select selling point from afore mentioned game> into DNF" .

And i do think the Duke brand is still known, i was 3 when DN3D was out but i still love that game to bits (and so does my mum lol), cause i played it when i was old enough to play know what Duke was, and anyway its not like every unknown game fails to attract an audience, I mean look at Portal, they though there was a high chance of the game failing to attract an audience, but tbh it was my absolute favourite game in the orange box even though at first i let it just sit there on my hard drive, until heard people talking about it.

Anyway lets hope for DNF! (Even though it will be slated by the critics)

Edit: Also after alot more of wasting my life watching the news feeds, its getting even more hyped that DNF might make an appearance... could be a big hoax, or it might be the real deal, can't tell anymore i'm blind with hope...

Double Edit: Apparently you can see Gearbox/2K unveil "something big" right here http://www.ustream.tv/2kgameslive

Triple Edit: The times are:
10am PDT (USA) (6pm BST (UK) / 7pm CEST (EU))

Awesome! Thanks for the site. I think I will be watching, just to see if it is DNF! ...I think that is why everyone will be watching.

i see a trend starting. Especially since Mario is doing so good. i think others are looking to go retro. look at the Teenagers today..going back to the 80's?? really?? Do they realize how completely insane 80's style was?

Wow, that video was disorganized. But yep, DNF is coming out in 2011! And with modern-looking graphics! I was worried it was just going to be a retro-style game using the old 2002 engine!

So all this time... and it's still not done?
