Great idea! I've spent most of yesterday and today Googling for just this very thing... if I'd found anything that looked good, I'd post it here

So far everything I've found is either old and broken... or total crap. I'm still searching!!

				World of Phaos:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/phaosrpg/ - Apparently, the author is working on a newer version, but I'm not able to find a link to the code - not sure if it's open source or not.
http://worldofphaos.com/index.php?site=magewar
Legend of the Green Dragon:
http://www.lotgd.net/home.php?
PHP RPG:
http://phprpg.org/ - unfinished, but open source

Nice links Halls - but wow, there's practically no info at all about those games on their sites... Irdya at least has some screenshots.
I've spent *way* too long looking the past couple of days...

haha i do understand that. Me too. Many of these OS games have bad reviews or little info because they are lacking only a little bit or people do not know how to get them going due to lack of instructions. We can fix that and I would be happy to help anyone get one working.
On the flip side if anyone finds a good looking one that they don't want to fool with let me know. I might be able to do something with it.
