Post by Chyren »

Outside of this: http://www.3dnemo.com/031_G_to_U.html

Which I find amazingly confusing,

Anyone know of any other way to import terrains to Unity from Google Earth?

Wow, I didn't know there was much of a way at all to get 3D data from Google Earth (since it is 2D images). I am definitely not a graphics person, but this looks like a pretty good bet. Maybe just keep fiddling with it. Also keep in mind that this method you linked may not work very well if the area is developed since it seems like the technique depends on seeing the natural slope of the ground to create a height map-like object out of the Google Earth capture. Buildings, parking lots and roads may confuse the software. I am thinking maybe that could be the problem, since in the tutorial the poster appears to be showing what looks like an uninhabited island. If the area you are trying to convert is developed, you may need to look for a relief map. Unfortunately I don't know where to direct you since I have never pulled one up, but I have heard before relief maps of regions are available for free in many areas on government websites.
