My small draft of a small game world: Driftwurld

Have a project in the works but not much media? How about an idea you are turning into a project? Maybe a game design document you want to start with. This is the place.

I got a PM on another forum about Driftwurld, reporting a bug. It's funny to have both the feeling that someone would write you a PM about it but at the very same time, you realise you've left a glaring bug in the code! It's like adulation and utter embaressment at the exact same time! :lol:

I had a go at the game.

Didnt really get where it was going.. You need to guide players through it so they dont get confused and quit.

I didnt really know what was going on. Plus the text was really small then big and bits were cut off. I didnt know what I was doing basically.

Just some feedbacks. Apart from that looks good.

Hi, havoknz, thanks for your feedback! :)

Did you not understand how to do the various tasks/mini games? Or do you mean you didn't have much of a sense of where it was leading to do them? Like what you were progressing at?

From the database I see quite a few people do some of the initial brawling mini game, then some of the tactical one, but seem to peter out after that.

Perhaps I should have those pages automatically send the user to the next mini game after they have met it's requirements, with a congrats screen notification in between?

I've put in a shoutbox with preset says, recently. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for more - I'll list the current shout options and reply options here:

Shouts
"I hate raptors!";
"Need more grenades...";
"Takes ages to get enough hard wood points!";
"What's up, all?";
"Well, hope people feel better soon!";
"Damn, the wizard shot the food...";
"Hey, who took my lumber camp?";
"I want an omega blade...cut me some raptors...";
"I wonder when the next stage after crawler trading will be added?";

Replies
"So do I!";
"Yeah, I know!";
"Goin' good!";
"Eh, havin' a pretty average day.";
"Havin' a crap day!";
"I did!";
"Yeah, I want that too!";
"Yeah, it's taking awhile!";
"I've already got one!!";

Got the chat room draft code working out - the fiddlier part of implementing a self moderating system seems to be less fiddley than I thought!

Basically went with the idea that each new day you log in, you get 1 point of modrank (up to 99). Once your at 11 or higher, anyone who is a lower modrank than you can be moderated by you. This drops their modrank to zero and while it's zero they can't post (and thier posts no longer show (to regular users, anyway). If they are modrank five or less this is free - if they are higher, it costs you 10 points of your own modrank.

I figure people who have logged on for a long time probably have the games concerns at heart relative to the number of days they have logged in - but even then, they have to use up some of their 'credibility' to moderate someone else (the other person is moderated for one day, as the next day they will gain 1 modrank and can post again).

Gah, the free site provider is checking the content of the page for 'malicious content'. Not that it is, but with 000webhost who knows what they call this or that. Certainly mine isn't high traffic.

I was thinking I should have backed up the database recently.

Edit: Ah, I can still get into myphp. So backed up the data for players (ie, for what active players there were).

I wonder if I should go in and delete all the files and replace them with a dummy till this is over? Seems I can still get in and change my files...just a major hassle and getting them back might even screw up the game for awhile with typo's, etc.
