Return to Space4K

About 4 years ago i played a thriving text based game called Space4k, and it was a simple planet management/war game, it was also the bigger brother of the OGAME which i think a few of you have played. Well a few days ago i returned to the game since i now have about 10 weeks of nothing to do, and when i got on it i discovered that the game has seemingly been disowned by its developers, gameforge, and has been slowly dieing because new players find it impossible to catch up, and that everyone is now at constant war. So i would just like to make a point that we should all keep in mind when we are designing our games in the hope that they go big time, that we shud make sure that the game is still fun for new players even after it has been going for years, so as we don't end up with games that fail after a a year or two.
Also if anybody fancies a go, my name on it is MrAngryTroll and i am in galaxy 34:10.

As a side note i also found some awesome source code for a clone of the OGAME which is certainly worth a look...

That's sad. Have they talked of handing the project over to anyone. There is no reason to let a good project rot. To be honest, reminds me of apoc-online a little. Apoc had a HUGE fanbase, but the developers I think just gave up on it. sad days...

i doubt they would give it away cause there is still like 100 people paying monthly. i was thinking of taking the ogame clone source and coverting it into space4k style and then see if they move over, cause i would update it n stuff rather than let it rot.

yep I was with Apoc in the very beginning. It was plauged with issues but could have done real well if they would have stuck with it.

i tried it out, i would actually want to go more complicated than that but I do like the idea of a Space territories and exploration game. Something like freelancer but text based.

Yer i have always wanted to expand on what is an incredibly basic game. The game feels like something that has only just been made, and it is about to be expanded but sadly it isn't.
