First PBBG?

Almost every genre has a specific "first game" that created the genre. Sometimes they are debated, and sometimes they are clear-cut. The first MUD was...well...MUD. The first graphical MMO was either AOL Neverwinter Nights or Meridian 59, depending on who you ask. The first Action-RPG as we know them today was Diablo.

But is there any game considered the "first PBBG" (browser-based MMO)? The first one I ever saw, and perhaps one of the oldest widely-played PBBGs is Legend of Green Dragon, but I don't know if there are any earlier ones. Of course there may be some that are as old as PHP itself, but I am wondering if anyone know what the first widely-played PBBG was.

Ohh, actually I remember that. It was called something like "Black Dragon", or something like that. Maybe I am way off on that one, but I do remember now it was a spin-off from another one.

I have to wonder if maybe something in that series was the first major PBBG, though. It LoGD says "copyright 2002" at the bottom of the page, and it was not even the first one. 2002 is a firm 4 years before the PBBG trend even started.
