Silverlight

Post by hallsofvallhalla »

I have been reading through(thanks to Raven) silverlight documentation and looking at examples. Its a pretty mean machine. Lots of goodies.

I am wondering though if I should spend time learning it or work with googles o3d

Hmm tough decision for I am looking for something that is going to enhance what I am doing with web browser games.

I would skip both and go with ajax, but if you want some interactivity I think silverlight is the way to go, google o3d is not quite ready yet in my opinion. and also SIlverlight is distrubuted at Windows Update too, which makes it more widespread.

Using asp.NET with silverlight would be really cool considering you can write both in C#, which means only one language to learn ;)

ajax is great but not what its cracked up to be. Ajax can be slow and your stuck with very little graphics options. Your still dealing with massive serverside hits when making a mmorpg or really any multiplayer where you must update both clients with the players locations.

Ye C# is a great language. And if you don't wanna use XNA you can also use Managed DirectX. Altho XNA is so much better then :P

C# is a very good language. However I think if Microsoft doesn't get there ass in gear with nvidia helping flash achieve hardware acceleration EVEN on there Mobile GPU line and by mobile I don't mean laptops I mean like there handheld GPU line. So we shall see who wins this war. Yes Silverlight is installed now with windows updater. However everybody has flash. And both Silverlight and FLASH are cross platform. So we shall have to see who wins.
