So I am working on my next text based browser game and I am looking through the different genres. It seems the normal ones have been completely overdone. I am trying to whip out a new or relatively new genre or game type and its not that easy. Seems like nearly everything has been done
What are everyone's favorite genres?

Holly Hobby online!
How about post-apocalyptic, with everyone having mutant powers? Kind of like X-Men meets Fallout?

Inventing new genres certainly isn't easy. Do you plan to select a genre/setting before planning any features at all?

Good question. I guess that is answered on what the initial idea is based on. Mine was on features but I have chosen a Fantasy Genre to try to add some D&D flavor to it.

A genre that I tend to see underdone would be political. In my experience they are pretty fun and make great text based games.

I actually don't think I have ever seen one of those (which would support you saying it is underdone lol). I will have to look around and see if I can find one

My personal favorite would be eRepublik. There are others though. I just think eRepublik is done the best; its probably the most popular one I know too (~370k players).

Yes eRepublick is fun but I tend to favor multiplayer business tycoons. That would be awesome if someone could make something that is like business management and politics combined.
