Angela will just be an engine - actually an interpreter for a language called Memotica. One cool thing about it is that world design concepts are resuable and independent of client technology. This means that your MUD's crafting system can be re-used on a graphical world for example.

Here is a nice MUD engine that is being made by a member of the MMORPGMaker forum, Scionwest. It is made mostly with C#, and has some very nice visual editors.

Actually, stay away from Mudmaker. You have to buy a package to be able to host your game for more than 3 or 4 players at once, and you are capped heavily on how long your game can be up with a free account. I would say to support them and buy a premium account, except that the project is abandoned. That announcement on the homepage from Oct 9th is actually from Oct 9, 2007. They have left it up to take people's money for hosting packages, but there has not been a content update in over 2 years now, and the owner of the service has not even made an announcement or said a word on the forums since then. There is also no way to get the source or raw scripts for your game, so there is no way to do some work in mudmaker, and then continue coding new features on your own. It is a waste of money as it stands with no one at the helm.

Well, "Multi-User Dungen", but who is counting?
MUD was inspired by a platform port of Zork called "Dungeon", but it was on a platform (can't remember specifically, this was the late 70's) that could only have 6 characters in a file name. Therefore it was called "Dungen". If the creator of MUD had played the original Zork, text-based MMOs likely would have been called "MUZ".
EDIT: While I don't really support it, some MUD users make a pretty good case that the actual late 70's game "MUD" was "Multi-User Dunge(o)n" and the genre of game itself is "Multi-User Dimension" because almost no MUD takes place solely in dungeons anymore. However, this alternate explanation of the acronym is mostly just a footnote.
