Jackolantern wrote:Welcome! 14 definitely isn't young to get into software development. I started out programming text-based RPGs on the Apple IIe when I was 12 (shows you how old I am lol, although they were quite a bit outdated when I was using it), and by the time I was 14, they were getting quite a bit more advanced. So a 14 year old can definitely program!
lol I started working in visual basic when I was 11 years old and now I'm 14 but I have stopped working in visual basic and am interested more in web developement, php, JavaScript, and java. When I go to highschool (after summer) I'm taking class for learning java and visual basic which I'm really excited for! :D

I am thinking to start a business, but I wonder where to start. I was thinking maybe start simple, like web tutoring? What was your first business?

And yeah, I wouldn't use Java either, especially if your handling graphics and games...

Graphics Design, If I was to do it now it'd be something with blogging though. There is this guy at my church making 6 figures from a blog about making websites, and he is younger than me lol.

yeah, if you make a very nice, neat, and easy to use blog TEMPLATE you can sell one for around $1500 U.S. money and very good templates $2000+ U.S. money. Or you could make normal website templates, sell them for $10-$50 depending on what is in the template and then have a option where they can buy it for let's say $300 if it's a $50 template and if they buy it for $300 you will take it off the site so no one else has it. But to do this you would need to get traffic to Your website(s). That's why I want like a section on getting website traffic or something to get a business going. That's my Internet business idea. You would have to be skilled in HTML JavaScript and graphic design to make a good template though!

My current thing is just to make a magazine / blog / social networking site with a digital distro platform and all kinds of other goodies and sell advertising at between 10 - 5000.

You guys are so lucky these days that you can learn programming in high school. When I was in school the only class they had was just called "Computers". 80% of the class was learning to type (lol) and the other 20% was divided between learning how to load files onto outdated Apple computers and being given pages of written code to type in without knowing anything of how it worked. Luckily I was able to pick up on the patterns of IF/ELSE structures, variables, and GOTO statements (luckily those have been mercy killed) on my own and that was enough to get me up and running to make text-based RPGs. The rest I just had to pick up through lots of experimenting and skimpy, jargon-filled offline help files :?
