But before you try the games on Win7 try this:
Go to Windows Update -> Select Optional Updates. There you will see a few updates that if you read the description says they fix backward compability. Install all of them that says that in the description, makes a lot of old apps and games work in win7.
Sadly, I must have already gotten that one, but I appreciate the help. When I looked at optional updates, the only thing OS related was a fix for SD card readers.
Oh well, there are more than enough newer games to play

Thanks so much guys! I'm glad someone suggested Age of Empires, now that's sealed my decision since I was leaning to that anyways

While on the subject of Age of Empires, it it just me or has the game-play changed from 1 and 2 to something entirely different in 3?
Personally, I expected 3 to be like 1 and 2: not a skirmish thing, but a long and endured process.

It is probably just moving with the trends of strategy games. When the first 2 came out, RTS games were still building steam. Now, empire-building games are massively overshadowed by RTS games, and I think they are just trying to cater to the faster gameplay expectations of modern strategy game players.

AOE is the A++ choice.
The nature of the game changed because of the period Pax. If they made a modern AOE you'd never assemble a full army you'd occasionally send squads out to have minor pissing matches with people and every so often perform bombing runs.
Doesn't matter though, That studio got the Axe.

Empire Earth is one that could have been awesome but they made the AI waaaaaaayyyyy to tough. It is very unbalanced.

Ye Empire Earth is a great LAN game atleast, except for the boats that is almost uncontrollable

haha yeah the boats just it there, your whole town could be getting raided and they just sit there.

Haha ye and their bounding boxes are like 10x the model size, so when navigating in the water they just get stuck in themself and end up all going on a long line to attack and getting sunk one by one by the enemy ships that are ready
