Wait... I don't think I understood the question
I have alot of imagination... it just never applies it to the right area lol.Xen wrote:See I am the other way round, my imagination has a mind of its own and I have to stop myself before it elopes with my sanity! I wish I could sit and code all day, but I'm still a complete novice and it's all a bit like learning Chinese at the moment - I kinda get the drift although makes no senseTorniquet wrote: but as of late it has been really hard to stay focused and on track due to one thing or another, which really has started getting to me lol. The main thing that is getting to me is the database work involved. probably because i have no real sense of imagination when i really sit and think about it lol.![]()
I definitely agree about the gamer thing. I play games maybe 2 or 3 hours a week, tops. I got on a run in Mega Man 10 about 2 weeks ago, and played a bit of FFXIII around the same time, but aside from that I don't even think I have played a game in a week or so. I just find I have more fun coding, reading tech books and learning new coding skills.hallsofvallhalla wrote:This is a all important subject that plagues us all. I don't care who you are. Keeping motivation is the HARDEST thing about game development. Harder than coding or art.
One thing is not to burn yourself out. It is fine to take a week or two off. It is actually needed. People need to understand that a game is not made in a day or a week. That is why I hate game a day contests. They ruin the true design of a game. When you plan your game plan a few weeks for a vacation. Some of the best motivation for me comes from when I take a break and play someone else's game. After all it was from playing games that your first inspiration came from right? A common misconception is game devs are gamers. Not true. Once you get the addiction of building games you find you won't play others as much.
I also believe as Jack that announcing a game too early is not the best idea but it depends on the definition of announce. Showing off a work in progress in a site like this is fine. We are all developers here and our comments can help motivate you. Announcing it to the world is suicide. People outside of these communities are harsh and hateful. I don't care if you built the next WOW or COD. Someone will bash it.
