A scanner would be nice, just because then I could use my actual sculpting expereince in starting base meshs or full on models.

I actually seen a 3D scanner in use. It was like a handheld pen that you pointed at the object, and it measured the distance with a laser, and you got a really nice 3D model on the screen.

That was at CE-Bit Germany 2009, so the technology is probably even cooler now :D
