Of course i don't expect you to use something if you see it as shady, I admit i might have talked about this a bit too early and instead of working for other teams I should focus more on my project, I will let you know when I am a bit more far along.

Facebook already has a universal currency. Just most people chose not to deal with it.

So why use one randomly created by an outsider when the platform itself already possess one?

I see no way of it being universal if you can't access it via the API, and is there a way of developers withdrawing their money?

They are called Facebook Credits, the developer uses Facebook as a go-between because people trust Facebook more than individual application developers.

The big developers (playfish, zynga and what not) haven't adapted it fully afaik yet for varying reasons. Probably has something to do with not being willing to redefine their payment system for a game that's hosted on multiple places. But yeh.

EDIT: More posts about it.

Generally, before coming up with what you think would be an application critical thing. You should check Facebook's Developer Roadmap to see if they are planning to get it out before you (or after you for that matter as I said why trust an unknown when the established source is already doing it)

Edit 2:

I also vaguely remember an article on Mashable about some people who were doing the exact same thing you proposed (and near enough to completion to show screens when Facebook announced the Credits system. But that's how the application industry is I guess.

That really sucks, it would have been very profitable, I guess that's why facebook decided to go for it.
