Some musing on a self animated toybox dev approach idea

Post by Callan S. »

I was just thinking today about game design and I kind of realised how much I think of games that only react when the player does something. I was thinking what about thinking of it, atleast near the start, kind of like a toybox approach - except here the toys, once our hands have let go of them, they can keep moving about by themselves.

Like, don't bother designing gameplay, just play with toys, except obviously you're adding behaviours to each toy so it runs after you've left it, and if you've left intereaction behaviour, it may interact with other toys it runs into.

Just musing about the idea!

There are a couple of games that sort of reminds me of. One being Animal Crossing. There isn't really so much gameplay. Instead you just interact with the NPC residents, and then leave the game while they react to what you did, and interact in different ways when they "run into each other", etc. Then you come back and see how the world has changed.
