Which engine

Post by mystd »

I'm currently making a list which engine I should use. There are so many good ones its hard to choose one. My current favorites are:

Cocos2D Pros: Free, Large community with lots of tutorials, has been around for a while
Impact: Pros: Editor, bunch of tutorials Cons: 100$
Construct 2: Pros: Almost no coding needed, lots of tutorials, price is 0 to way too much Cons: My coding will probably stay lousy
Isogenic engine: Pros: Intergrated multiplayer, built in mmo featue, Cons: very expensive, community is small
melon.js: Pros: free, uses tiled as map editor

The rest was either not good enough or I missed them. Do you guys have pros and cons to add? I'm really having a hard time to choosing one.

Impact has a great community, which includes the impactjs.com forums, plus pointofimpactjs.com, a community-made resource and tutorial site!

As far as good HTML5 game engines go, probably the best free engine is CraftyJS. It has a decent-looking community, a decent amount of tutorials and a full API class reference.

Well since most seem to use impact Ill use it too. I'm pretty n00b anyways choosing an engine with a big community is best for me. My first pick would have been cocos2djs but I didn't know cocos2d and cocos2djs were different, so all the community cocos2d has is not for the js version.

Very true. I think regular Cocos2D is for iPhone or something like that.
