Re: Super 8
I was just about to watch this the other day, but concluded to wait a bit since I knew basically nothing about (not even the basic premise lol). However, I love me some Goonies, so if it has even a passing feel to it, I am all over it!

Isn`t that kind of a reason to watch a movie? Not knowing how the story is et cetera?
Any way, I too liked the movie, all I heard was the new "steven spielberg" movie, so it had to be good. Personally, i`m a huge fan of his movies and i loved most of his films. From Indiana Jones to Jurassic Park, Jaws, ET, Close encounters, Hook, Empire of the Sun, Schindlers List, Saving private Ryan et cetera.
And he`s also executive producer for a television series, Falling Skies. Which is looking good still.

Thank god you didn't sat AI in there.
if it wasn't for M Knight Shalamanading dong alshamalan, it would have been one of the worse(worst) movies I have ever seen.
But other than that yes I enjoy his movies too.

Hah true, but then again I didn`t list all my cool movies by Spielberg, mostly because the list is very long. In fact, I enjoyed Back to the Future as well, Band of Brothers, the Pacific et cetera. Regardless, Super 8 is a nice cool movie and indeed a bit like the Goonies.

Re: Super 8
True that the element of surprise is nice, but I am very picky about movies, so I like to at least know the premise to tell if it sounds stupid. For example, that movie coming out called "In Time" where everyone's life expectancy is a digital clock running on their arm, and seconds, minutes and hours of your life are used as currency is just way too dumb for me, and there is no way I would ever see it. There is just no way you could plug up that many holes; it would be a leaky sieve. With Super 8, the only thing I had seen or heard about it was the teaser trailer, which if you saw it, you would know it basically did nothing but get awareness of the title out. It was very mysterious, didn't show any characters, etc. Basically it just eluded to the fact that something happened lol.Xaleph wrote:Isn`t that kind of a reason to watch a movie? I am actually not a Spielberg fan by any stretch of the imagination. I dislike way more of his movies than I like. I just feel he uses too many cliches, corny dialog, and forced touching moments to appeal to me. About the only backdrop that I can enjoy a movie that has those elements are movies like The Goonies that bring back childhood memories (it doesn't necessarily have to be from an actual movie from my childhood in the 80's, if it just feels like it). And The Goonies wasn't even directed by Spielberg, since it was directed by his right-hand man in the 80's, Richard Donner (who I think out-does Spielberg at his own game lol).
Anyway, I will definitely check out Super 8 now

hehe i thought the same thing about "In-Time" How would we ever even get to something like that? What is the point? The world as a whole would be a bit hard to monitor. Countries would want to be dominant and give their citizens more years, ect...

I just watched this movie tonight, and I really liked it. Liked the way they kept it hidden for the most part, really enjoyed.
