AT&T’s new fourth-generation network is mighty fast.
AT&T’s LTE network in Houston is even speedier than that of AT&T’s most fierce competitor: Verizon Wireless, a PCMag.com junior analyst, David Pierce, found.
In eight rounds of testing, the site found that AT&T’s network averaged out with download speeds of roughly 24 Mbps and peaked at 42.85 Mbps – the fastest cellular connection the website had ever observed.
Dallas-based AT&T on Sunday introduced its 4G LTE network in five cities: Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, Texas.
The company hasn’t yet introduced a 4G smartphone, although AT&T does offer a few devices that support its enhanced network, including the HTC Jetstream Tablet.
AT&T, the second-largest U.S. wireless operator, plans to offer its 4G service to 70 million Americans by the end of the year.
Basking Ridge, N.J.-based Verizon Wireless is ahead of AT&T in the 4G race and revealed last month that its LTE network already reaches more than half of the U.S. population. The nation’s largest mobile operator offers 11 LTE-devices, including the Motorola Droid Bionic smartphone. Last week, Verizon Wireless rolled out 4G to 26 additional markets and promised speeds of 5-12 Mbps on the downlink and 2-5 Mbps on the uplink.

Guess time to cancel my AOL dial up
haha but
Re: Guess time to cancel my AOL dial up
AT&T is on my "list" right now... we get horrible 3G coverage around here. My iPad cannot hardly do anything when I'm on their service, even though I have full signal strength. I've been looking for an alternate data plan, but seeing as how I have an iPad 1, the only other option is Verizon using a external wifi hotspot... too much trouble for the few times I'm out on the road and want to use my iPad (have wifi at home)
First I thought it was my iPad not working right, but I've been to Kansas City a couple times and it works like a dream up there - so it's our crappy rural service I guess

Nice speeds....until you think about the fact that AT&T has no unlimited plan. Yes, it would be nice to be able to get a website in under 1 second like on my desktop, instead of the 5 - 10 seconds it takes on AT&T 3G, but you really could not fully take advantage of the speeds due to only getting 2gb a month at the max.
I may still look into this, though, particularly since it appears to be here in Houston and I already have AT&T.

I am not a fan of AT&T anyways, just posting it. Would go with Sprint first.

Yeah, I am not a fan either. I don't get signal at my school. I don't get signal at about 4 places going down I-45. I don't get signal down the street from my house, and on and on.
However, I am on a family plan that really no other provider can match, so the price keeps me on it for now lol.
