Eclipse Origins
Hey Everyone, I don't have time to go into detail, but i was wondering is anyone is interested is fooling around with the Eclipse Engine with me? you know, customizing and re-coding some of it, and then testing it out. It would be a good learning experience

Re: Eclipse Origins
You should look into rebuilding the engine to work in a browser with .net or JS

Re: Eclipse Origins
The huge stumbling block for most people is going to be VB6
It can be difficult to impossible to get it to run in Windows 7 from what I have heard, and you can only obtain it from ways that many users will not want to take
Do you know how the Java rewrite is going on the main Eclipse forums? (as if there wasn't already enough confusion between Eclipse Engine and Eclipse Java IDE
)

Not Really, I plan on studying it and doing some research before I start the actual rebuild. I wan't to change it almost completely. I mostly just wan't to learn more about how the engine worksJackolantern wrote:The huge stumbling block for most people is going to be VB6It can be difficult to impossible to get it to run in Windows 7 from what I have heard, and you can only obtain it from ways that many users will not want to take

Re: Eclipse Origins
The java engine has been a dream for years. They supposedly have had it close to finished for the same amount of time.

Re: Eclipse Origins
That is the biggest problem I had with Eclipse. I played with it for awhile and it was fun and easy to get working but when it came to actually making game features it was very hard because the only way to script it is with VB6. I think if they ever get it updated to be able to edit with something that is easy to get and use like java then it would be an effective tool, but until then it is not very useful.

Netgore has a much better community, is written in C#.net and has lighting and particles. Not sure why anyone would use eclipse or its relatives.

Re: Eclipse Origins
i used all versions of eclipse and i even edited my own from Eclipse Stable.
halls, the eclipse engine is a powerfull engine to make 2D MMORPG, its good for newbs.
I already heared (eared?) about NetGore but never tried because i dont know C#
VBGore in the other hand is less powerfull than eclipse origins.
But i think the main reason for using Eclipse engines is due to Newb Friendly Source

How so? VBGore uses directx and has a lighting engine and supports a ton more formats.VBGore in the other hand is less powerfull than eclipse origins.
My main 2 issues with Eclipse is the community and the fact too many games have been attempted with it. You have about a .01% chance to make a successful game with it. Everyone has seen a million games "made" with the engine and they are all clones. The community is the worst community on the net. Very rude and hateful.

Re: Eclipse Origins
I have to agree on how horrible the Eclipse community is. I used to know VB6 pretty well, so I thought I would mess around with the engine a while back. I was helping out a lot of people in their programming forum when an admin sent me a PM saying "Stop spamming the forums or I will kick your $%# out of here". Wtf?! I had just given 4 or 5 people within an hour some of the best coding advice they had ever gotten on that forum, and they were all very thankful! That was it for me. I left the place and never looked back.
