Goofing with a sidescroller MMO

Have a project in the works but not much media? How about an idea you are turning into a project? Maybe a game design document you want to start with. This is the place.

Actually I think there is a considerable demand for 2D sidescrolling MMOs, mostly generated from Maple Story. Not many exist, so it leaves fans of the genre (which is actually quite different from overhead) with few options.

The only issue I could maybe see with an engine is its networking. Sidescrolling MMOs require very fast network reaction to play as smoothly as the flag-bearers of the genre such as Maple Story. While I am not a fan of MS, it was very smooth, and a lot of its combat and PvP system was built around the fact that it played with the same pace as a Mario game, or Zelda 2 on the NES. Getting play that smooth and latency free is no small task, so I would wonder how an indie engine would fair.

Regardless, it looks very neat :) Where did you pick this up if you don't mind me asking? I see it is NetGore from the pics (love me some .NET :) ), but where did you get the sidescrolling mod, or did you make it yourself?

This engine looks very nice! I may as well just try and give it a whirl! Maybe make a small to-down RPG :)

Do you know if this is actually the same author as VBGore, or if this is just an inspiration/port?
