I gave my idea to a company

Post by KingScar »

Hey guys,

I need your opinon on something. About 2 weeks ago or so, I started thinking about this game and slowly putting it together in my head and building it and building it and building in my head for two weeks straight stayin up all night to work on it, and it was actually a REALLY awesome idea and game overall. Well, a friend of mine works for a new game studio that goes by u2u entertainment.

Well anyways, the first game that u2u released, which I also happen to be head moderator for, has been having some issues lately because they went into beta WAYYY to fast and everything was screwed up so we have to roll back to pre alpha and make the final huge changes along with some better animation and such. My friend is the community manager for u2u entertainment for this game and he also happens to be my friend so, even though I REALLLYYY wanted to make a team on here and build it with unity and blender and make it into an actual 3d game instead of a browser based game. Well, it turns out he and apparently the developers over in china loved my idea and how well thought out it was and I haven't heard a word in about 2 days but, it seems like they might put my idea into effect and create a whole new game but, I doubt I'd get anything out of it other then creative thanks or something. So, in your own opinion, do you think I should be happy my works getting out there or should I tell them I want it back or that i have creative control or something over the project?

If someone is interested in making it, I say let them have it. It is just the nature of indie MMORPG production that you would likely never finish that exact project. It takes years and it is hard to keep an indie team together, and no one will join an indie team unless they get some input on the game. If it was ever even to be completed, with all of your future ideas and the ideas of the team, it will be a 100% different game.

If it gets made, just be happy that something you only spent 2 weeks on became a complete, commercial game. And then you may even want to play it! People never want to play their own indie games that they developed, but since the game will evolve some more once the company works on it, it may be interesting enough for you to actually become a player!

Your welcome!

I would love for a company to want to make one of my ideas! Then I would just get to sit back and know it is someone else's responsibility to make it a reality, while I can move on to different project ideas.

See, I'm a not only a very creative person but, I'm intelligent too which makes for excellent plot lines game mechanics and everything that involves a process. But, I just like the pride of saying, "yeah, I made that." but, I guess it's in better hands now, they have funding, I don't.
I'd love to tell you guys about it, but i wouldn't wanna ruin the suprise for the next browser based smash hit! ;D
lol
If they decide not to pick it up, I'll try to go my way with it.

Maybe even try to make it a community project like Halls does except for a 3D game using unity and blender.

I agree with the let them make it, just try and get credit. If you are aiming for the big leagues your name on another title is always good.

Yeah, that's true.

I've always loved and appreciated indie games but, I'm not indie HARDCORE meaning I'm not, "anti establishment" indie. Of course I'd love to have my name on a major title! lol

Ahh, yes, I agree with Noc. Try to get your name in the credits, especially if you want to become a professional designer one day. Offer to sign paperwork saying that you are freely offering them the game design for no royalties (otherwise you may have a very hard time getting them to put you on the official credits for legal reason). See if you can get credited with a game designer credit. It can be hard to get your foot in the door as a game designer, because almost every company wants you to have a completed, commercial game under your belt, and a game with designer credit would be a big boost to your portfolio. Getting game designer experience can be a big catch 22 because you can't get experience because you don't have experience. This could be a big help :)

Well, I just gotta take it one day at a time and see where it leads me. As I said, I haven't heard anythign in a few days, they might not even take it but, the way the originally talked about it, they seemed like they really liked it.
