Let Me In?...Let me out...
What is it with horror movies in Hollywood since The Ring? Ever since then, almost every horror movie has been an import and re-tooling of a previous international movie. The latest of this is Let Me In, which will surely prove to be yet another complete debacle compared to its amazing source, Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In). This movie was absolutely stunning, so why remake it for the US? Because horror fans are shallow and won't read subtitles? Because dubbing live-action movies looks stupid? Well...those are compelling and true reasons. But why not just leave it alone? It made an impression because of the actors and director of the original, as well as the wonderful script that did not force feed you every emotion and thought. It will be made easily digestible and thin, not to mention that it will likely all tie-up nicely at the end for the US audience. And, ohh...let's not forget about jump-out scares! We need those!
Seriously...I could probably write an original horror script good enough for Hollywood every week that would be better than these awful remakes, and then we wouldn't be desecrating these wonderful international horror films, or older classic horror movies (Nightmare on Elm Street anyone?).

OMG , man did you hit it square on the head. Me and my wife just got thru watching Nightmare on Elm Street and we both were totally disgusted with it. Not only was it NOT scary , but it totally crapped on the original with its poor effort to even come close to the original. It appears that there is no more genuine talent left in the horror industry in hollywood , or the public has made it to easy for the slackers out there to make a quick buck off of a already established name.

haha yep, yeah so true! have not seen a good horror film in years!! I will try the Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In) though, thanks for the tip!
I am so sick of hollywood failing at human emotions, they now make up emotions just to make the movie work instead of making the script work around true human emotions..... "hmm i need this character to die, okay lets make him kill his brother for no apparent reason"..i mean it has become mind numbing.
directors like M knight shalamonasucks keep putting out these crap fests. Have you seen the previews to Devil? OMG..elevator scene..really? best you can do? Been there done that...

Ohh hell...I didn't know he was writing that one (not directing, but still). I read the plot synopsis and thought it may have actually sounded interesting: a group of strangers get stuck on an elevator, and after a series of odd events, they begin to suspect that one of them is the devil. While it is pretty general, it could have been a solid framework for an interesting story investigating religion, trust, etc. But now I know it will be garbage. Man, he has the exact opposite of a Midas Touch, whatever you would call it...Magical Poop Fingers?hallsofvallhalla wrote: directors like M knight shalamonasucks keep putting out these crap fests. hahah nice! Anus Touch?
Re: Let Me In?...Let me out...
I saw the preview for Devil a couple weeks ago when we went to see Inception.
When the screen came up and said "From the mind of M. Night Shamalamadingdong" (did I spell that right?
) I cringed... when it got to the end and the voiceover said something like "one of these people is not who they seem" and the name of the film popped up ("Devil") several people in the theater actually laughed out loud. I can't imagine this being anything but horrible... given MNS's track record.

Yeah, all I had seen was the teaser trailer (which they interestingly did not mention MNS) and then read the synopsis. Kind of interesting idea, but wow...this is going to be crap.

He will surely win a Nobel Prize for Science if he finds a way to make something worse than The Happening.hallsofvallhalla wrote:could it possibly be worse than "The Happening"?
