Chivalrous Kingdoms - Beta Testing

Post by Zyviel »

Hey guys, Ive made a game. If anyone has some free time and would like to take a look at it, and help me beta test it that would be great. http://www.chivalrouskingdoms.com This game is a empire building strategy game with 3 kingdoms at war with each other.

It also has has a chat box, so feel free to hang out and chat (if there are people on to chat with ;) ). I intend to add other options like private messaging and guild and alliance chat in the near future. The chat box displays differently depending on which browser you use. I test in Mozilla Firefox and it displays best in that. If anyone has suggestions on how to improve the chat box or any other parts of the game please post them here or on my forums. Any help is appreciated.

There is an overview and tutorials on the web site as well. You will need to register an account on the game forums before you can play the game. After registering on the forums you can return to the main web site and choose play game. You will then login to the game with the same user name and password you use on the forums.

Thanks for the help I have already received here and thanks for any feed back you can give me on the game.

I also registered, but I think I am going to have to read through the tutorial, because I opened a menu and did not find a way to get out of it back to the map.

From looking at the player rankings i believe there are 4 from here that have created an account so far and logged into the game: alexander19, Asgarth, liam and Jackolantern. Thanks guys for taking a look at the games beta test.

Jackolantern, once you are in the game you can click on any of the choices (links) shown in the bottom right box of the client. These will take you to the screen you want to go to. You dont actually exit a screen. You just click on one of the links that you want to go to and new screens will open up.

Some things that may be causing confusion:
  • There are two maps. The map you start on on is called the Player map, its a safe zone. You have your starter city on this player map. There is a monster cave and a monster ruins right beside the city.

You kill enemy units by parking your troops on a map square. Your troops look like a little army camp on the map.

You can go to Reports - Scouting Reports to see what you are up against.

As long as your troops are alive you will get a scouting report on locations they are at. If your troops are listed, but there are no monsters then your troops have killed the monsters that were there.

If you do not see a scouting report listed for the map location your troops went to, then the monsters have killed your troops.

You can also look at Reports - Battle News to see what battles have taken place.

Once you have killed the monsters at the monster cave and monster ruins there is nothing left to kill on the player map. You will then want to transport troops to the Contested map where you can build cities, farms, etc.. as well as fight other players, npcs and monsters.

Go to Spells - and cast Teleport troops to move troops off your player map to the contested map.

There is also a tutorial section on the web site that I hope gives a decent explanations of how the game works.
I've done a lot of work but still lots more work to do. Thanks again for checking the game out and please feel free to ask me questions here, or on my message boards or in game if I'm there. Suggestions, analysis and Bug Reports are very much appreciated as well.

You really need to upgrade the UI on this game, because i am certain you have a great game but i cannot tell because the learning curve is really steep.
I was finding myself confused quite alot and i was trying to attack a cave but i could not work out how. will do more testing and fiddling soon.

Thanks for the feedback rockinliam. I agree I need to give more visual cues to the player so that a new player can understand how to use the interface. One thing I plan to do this weekend is work on the information a player gets from battles.

I want to update the map with cross swords graphic when a player's troops are fighting in an area. Also, right now if someone checks battle news it displays all locations where any player had a battle. I want to give people the option to see only their battle news or their guild's battlenews, etc.. as well as the world battle news that it currently shows.

I have made some fixes to the chat box. The random spaces it was putting in are gone now and now messages with a single quote work properly. I plan to work on improvements to the chat box after I get more pressing problems ironed out. Currently I have an npc Elf queen who has gone rogue with her kingdom and is killing elven players. Unfortunately this was not a planned special event lol.

Good News! The Elven civil war has ended! ( I hope.)

The bug where elven npc troops were attacking elven player troops has been corrected I believe. Thanks to Missbored for reporting it.

I registered and looked around a bit... not sure what I'm supposed to do LOL

You might consider putting links to the tutorial on the main play screen, along with a "log off" link.

Looks like you're off to a good start though :)

Thanks for checking out the game OldRod.

I know the game is confusing to a new player and I plan to add an in game tutorial system just like you are suggesting. I'm currently adding a new interface to give players more information regarding battles. Now when players move their troops around the map and the player's troops encounter enemy forces, I show a crossed swords image on the map square. They can click on the crossed swords and reports come up showing the troops on both sides and battle round information. There are still some bugs with this and I'm trying to clean those up.

I also want to improve other parts of the interface so players can get the information they are after as quickly and easily as possible. I also plan to make major improvements to the chat box. It just takes time to code and also deal with the unexpected bugs that crop up.

spawnfestis,

From what I can tell you didn't register on the forums or log into the game so I assume the design you are talking about is the homepage. I agree it is very bare bones and not impressive. I'm planning to try and improve the looks of the homepage after I have the game running smoothly.
