Re the Mechwarrior franchise, Mechwarrior 4 is now available for free download. The official link http://www.mektek.net/projects/mw4/download.html unfortunatly due to the extreme popularity it seems this site is broken now.

You can get the installer here http://www.bigdownload.com/games/mechwa ... free-game/ , or do what I did and find a torrent with the download.

Awesome game I have to say!

Bane_Star wrote:Ever Seen Mech-warrior? Not the computer game, but the original paper and pencil roleplaying game.. the slot system for weapons you describe sounds very much like mechwarrior.

^ Exactly what I was thinking.

There is a browser based MMORPG implementation of mechwarrior at: http://www.neveron.com

I've heard Disney had something to do with the length of copyright being extended.

But yeah, I believe someone has the trademark for Mechwarrior still, there was a nice discussion on gamedev.net about if someone could use Mech in their game.

interesting. I don't think Mech actually came from Mech Warrior but who knows with some of these silly copyright trademark laws.

If there is some copyright/trademark issues with using the term "mech", a designer could just take it upon themselves to create a more creative and unique term for them. Mech fans will obviously be ale to tell what they are from the artwork.

Isn't Mech short for Mechatronics?
