Decisions, Decisions

Post by Last Known Hero »

Ok, so for Christmas I got a good amount of money. I was thinking of:

1.. Slowly buying and building myself a desktop computer specifically for my work (3d/game stuff), I would need everything, and there might be space issues since it has to be in my bedroom.
2.. Should I buy a laptop to use as my work computer for designing and game setup?
3.. Another option is to avoid getting a new computer all together and saving the money for when I want to get something designed or buy stuff for other random things.

Which should I choose??

Few years back I was in the same shoes as you..kind of I guess.

I went with a laptop and it has served me well since then :). Of course building a mean desktop you can never go wrong..but for me I needed the mobility.

I guess the choice is yours on how you would want to handle it. I personally would go with the laptop so that way you can take it wherever you go and be able to "work," whereas if you had a desktop you couldn't do that.

But really, its your choice on how you want to handle it...

P.S. Hows that render farm coming?

Don't know yet. Still waiting for the harddrives. Shipping is a little slow since it's the holidays and my post office just openned today (we have a ackage waiting, it might be mine!!). I'm getting impatient for it though.

So far I am going to get a laptop when I can, I would love to be able to work on it anywhere.

Sweet...hopefully they are there.

Thats what I am using to build Undiscovered is with a laptop! :) Now if they would just make Unity portable, then I would be excited!! :)

I don't think I would be doing too many high poly scenes inside max with the laptop. I would use ZBrush for hipoly and it handles polys really well, I just can't go past 30 million lol.. I won't be able to get this right away, just curious on which I should get.
