Perhaps they still offer a commercial version, and you got the demo of that by mistake? I just can't see why a commercial game engine venture would just throw their hands up one day and say "Never mind, its free!" without offering some kind of other product. Free software and commercial software have very different atmospheres, and it is rare for commercial software to become free software without any additional products being advertised.

Maybe this is just a "Lite" version for free, and you downloaded a demo of the full version?

I don't know. I went straight to their site, and clicked the download link they had. Got the 3d rad environment and the compiler.

It IS completly free. They decided to go donationware so that their software gets more public exposure. This post explains it all.

They basically set a new milestone/feature with the money that needs to be raised to achieve it, when the donations are enough, the feature is implemented and the new version of the software is released. This has already proven successful with the first feature, for which they raised the money in 4 hours

Me neither. Maybe other people do, but I have never donated for any piece of software I didn't have to pay for in my life. It's just too easy to say "someone else will do it".

Ohhh, I did mean "I won't be making any donationware software either", but those two sentences kind of ran together wrong. I knew what you meant :D
