If your going to build your own I suggest XNA studios. It is great for PC and Xbox interaction.

When I get time, got an idea but no time. Studying full time for a master in computer engineering at university currently, so not much spare time for projects after studying and partying

It will work with all new phones running Windows 7 Phone which is released later this year, looks really sweet. Xbox-live is fully integrated in the mobile too. Here is a preview of the new mobile OS, nothing like old windows mobile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVPZKZda ... re=related
Looks really nice, some really nice new features not seen on other smartphone OS on the market.

you wont get an mmo running on xbox using XNA. The XNa framework net only supports 32 players. FF11 was only available because microsoft cut lots of corners. You can't use the sockets to connect to custom sockets either. Ofc is very possible for the pc which i am currently doing in silverlight when i have the time :)
