Monetize your Unity Game!

Post by vitinho444 »

Hey guys, i released a Unity3D Game in the Halloween, and im making other.

But as we can't keep staying in the down level, i dicided to make a little search for monetization in unity.

I found out pretty cool websites, like those flash games portals, that accept the unity web player extension, also they can give you part of the ads revenue!! ($_$ RIGHT?)

So i want to share with you guys those websites.

The main you should submit is: http://www.wooglie.com, wooglie was built by a guy in the unity forums i think, specially for unity games, and they say the more your game is played the more $$$ you get. (ads based i think).

Other that i played since i was 10 is http://www.miniclip.com, this is only for flash you must be saying, but today i ran into a unity player game, and i checked their developers corner, and i think they accept unity too, i sended an email to confirm but no reply so far (sended 27 December 2012). i will update as i get a reply.

Other websites:
http://shockwave.com (web + standalone)
http://facebook.com (web) //i think facebook is a good choice, never created a facebook app, but isn't it like programming in HTML and JS?
http://candystand.com (web + standalone)
http://miniclip.com (standalone)
http://kongregate.com (web) // this one i personally checked, you can earn up to 50% of the revenue (ads) this 50% is only for games that are published only by them.
http://gamejolt.com (web + standalone)
http://blurst.com (web + standalone)
http://bigfishgames.com (standalone)
http://realarcade.com (standalone)
http://boonty.com (standalone)
http://reflexive.net (standalone)
http://musegames.com/ (web + standalone)
http://www.indiepubgames.com/ (web + standalone)
http://www.tinyutopia.com/
http://dimerocker.com
http://store.steampowered.com/ // you can put your games in steam now with steam greenlight, if you want your game on steam store it needs to gather some votes in this new greenlight system, you can always beg for your players vote..
http://www.addictinggames.com/

If you know any other please say and i will add to the list, also if you have any experience with any of these websites please review them here so we can improve this list :)

Very cool! I had wondered how you could make money off of Unity games, short of straight selling them (and we all know that typically doesn't go that well for indies unless you are on Steam, XBLA or PSN).

Steam also offer you the chance to put the game there :)

But first, u need to pass the greenlight, where every user votes for your game to pass or fail.

I saw that! It does seem more friendly to indies, but I am hoping it doesn't end up becoming a popularity contest that funded studios end up always winning because they have advertising dollars to get traffic to vote for their games.

Seconded!

But hope Vs capitalist using money to make sure no one else gets it, probably not the fairest of comps.

Well, i see that in my country, there's some websites that give you news from games and tech, and when they publish indie games made in my country they just put those companies that get like 500.000$ funds and pay them to publish for advertisement. I sent them my games, not even a answer -.- That's just sick -.-

Nice list! There's also addictinggames.com you can submit flash games and mobile, I think there's no HTML5 though :( It changed alot since the last time I went to that site, maybe someone bought it...

True! But I suppose Greenlight is better than the way Steam used to be, where having a fairly large budget (at least by indie standards) was pretty much a requirement to get in. At least now small, nearly unfunded indie games have a chance to get in and be big hits!

I will add it to the list, one thing, does unity export to flash too? In my build options there's Flash (Preview) or something ... what preview means in this circumstances?
