Unity runs in browser with no download? Space combat?

Post by Verahta »

I was looking at Battlestar Galactica Online and discovered it's made with the Unity Engine and apparently runs in the browser with no download! I've been researching a lot about browser games as I want to make my own space based game (with my own original story and 'genre/atmosphere' of course). How hard would it be to create a 3D space game with Unity, similar to Battlestar or this game here on YouTube called "Omega Dash" which this guy is making and looks just totally cool, he did a great job with the background and music, reminds me of the X-series of space games, which I am a big fan of:

So how doable would it be for a beginner to make a space combat & trading game in Unity Engine? Similar to X games by Egosoft, O-Dash, Battlestar, and so on.

Quite easily. Unity is very easy to use and several members here are using it. Give it a whirl and ask questions when you get into trouble.

Unity is very simple to use. Just need to know/learn Javascript, C# or Boo...it uses all three.

OuterNet (found in Project Tier 1) is designed using Unity 3D. Just recently updated mine to the 3.4 version. Also check out Star Trek Infinite Space which is also done using Unity 3D and browser based.

Well, it is not exactly with no download. Most internet users do not have the Unity browser plugin, so they would need to get that first in order to play Unity content.
