Newbie Here! (making an interactive forum based rpg)

Hello! So I really like "play-by-post" forum RPs but they tend to be really boring and quickly become inactive. I've been trying to combine basic forum with rpg elements like points/currency and health system, maybe some stats. I'm using MyBB as the software with plugins (Newpoints+shop), ideally its prob easier to use a browser based game engine but I don't know how to code in most of those languages or manage server databases, aside from small tweaks. Looking around for inspiration here, as I see some really good links to software.

Welcome!

If you want to go more the direction of a web game (PBBG, or browser-based MMORPG), maybe try checking out some of Hall's browser MMO tutorial videos. Particularly his older series I know doesn't require any programming experience, since he explains basic programming along the way. And most users find by the end of the tutorial series they understand enough to start making edits and new features on their own. The Browser MMO v2.0 series may not require programming experience either, I am not sure. But for sure I know the first one does not. :ugeek:

I once built a play by post engine that would allow the users build characters, roll dice, ect and then post a link in the forums with the results. So when you made a character it would give you the text for the post to show the character sheet. If you needed to roll dice you would roll it then paste the link on the forums. Was a pretty neat system that I never finished. Need to try to find it.
