Going on Steam Greenlight Soon, TIPS?

Post by vitinho444 »

Hey guys :D
So.. yeah.. the title explains it all, I'm finishing a simple game I made and I want to release it on Steam.
First I wanna say why. There are 2 reasons:
1- I want to test "the waters" so that I know what to wait for when I release another game that will be much more complex.
2- To see if I can at least make the 90€/100$ Greenlight fee.

It's a procedural generated game in which you must drill the planet to find antimatter that will save the earth

So I would like to know some tips from you guys to make the best out of the greenlight situation :)
Thanks a lot!

Here are some screenshots of the game so far:

First of all, cool that you try, but I can talk from experience that greenlight is somewhat hard. You will need to either have really something fun / cool idea or nice / special art. In your case it do seems a bit like those mining games you can find made in flash... so the idea is not unique (yes I know most ideas today are hardly unique), but where I see the biggest problem is the art quality, here you risks to have really bad comments. So be prepared to receive rude / inappropriate comments.

Anyhow good luck and let us know, even so that we can vote for you ;)

Very cool! Good luck with it and definitely let us know when it goes so we can vote.

I agree with Betrand on how hard it can be on steam. People are dicks so no matter what keep your head up and stay with it. It looks cool and anxious to play it.

Really thanks for replying :)

Yeah, it's based on Motherload (ofc it's not a ripoff, It has many differences, but the core concept is the same yes) which I played back when I was younger. I know it's a bet, there are tons of games trying to make it, but I think it's a good experience, whether it goes good or bad, and I'm sure I will learn a lot about people being dicks like you guys say and what people really want.

I will definitely announce here when it goes live here :) And free keys for whoever wants it :)

Also, Alain why was your greenlight experience hard?

PS: The official features list is this:
Procedural World
In Planet Driller the world is procedurally generated, so that every new game you start, you have a different experience based on a seed and difficulty with more than 4 Billion different worlds.

Procedural Economy
As you discover more minerals the price of each one will start to decrease, based on the law of supply and demand.

Procedural Music
All ambient music is procedurally generated MIDI music.

Upgrades
At first your ship has a slow drill speed, a small tank and storage and a weak protecting hull, but as you sell more minerals and collect more money, you can buy upgrades for each component that will make the job easier!

Natural Disasters
The planet you are exploring is hostile and from time to time natural disasters will happen, like meteor showers, earthquakes and blizzards that will make your journey not as pleasant.

If you want to test out the last build you can download here: (WINDOWS X86, should work on 64bits too) https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=F ... file%2czip
If you do test it and have feedback I will be glad to know it :)

The problem is happening in every people's computer but not on my own... VERY WEIRD... But I will debug it ASAP, and this is why testing is useful!

Yep! Just let me know and I will give it another test. Is screen resolution messing with it?

Nope, it's a world generation problem.

Here you have the latest build that I made, that will probably fix it. If it didn't I will have to take a closer look on why it's happening, probably will need to go to my second pc to test out.
