Origin of i18n and L10n

Post by Jackolantern »

If you are not familiar with the terms, i18n is a term used for software "internationalization" and L10n is used for "localization". I always thought this probably related to some kind of specification somewhere, or some usenet group's code for some kind of convention (considering there really is no standard specification for either).

Tonight I actually figured I would look it up and see what they meant. The meaning and origin is not quite as fanciful as I thought lol. It really started as a joke. Check out the link for the meaning and origin. It is actually interesting how underwhelming it is :D
