Weird google results

Post by Sim »

So I was playing with google searching when me and a team was joking in a chat and someone called my brain a -0. So I googled -0 and it didn't return no results.

After further investigating. Any one word string entered into google starting with the "-" symbol will not return no results. "-hi" "-google", but "hi", or "google" will return.

I believe the '-'(minus) is used for more precision searching, for example.

"funny cat videos -dog"

You get only funny cat videos that do not have the 'dog' word in it.. (Oh, what an example :D)

Yep, that is it. Negative is a negation operator in Google search (and most search engines since Yahoo! implemented the feature in the early 2000's, believe it or not).

There are several other operators as well, and you can see them all here. There are also "shortcuts" like you can search

Code: Select all

define: object-oriented
which will take you right to a definition of the word "object-oriented". I am not sure about a list of these type of commands.
