New business tycoon style game

Post by melharts »

Hello community!

I would like to first start off by thanking Halls of Vallhalla, you've kept this website up and running for years, and you deserve the thanks! Not to mention all the help you've provided to your loyal community (including myself) :)

To the main point! I'm looking for interested people in helping to develop a new business tycoon game that will be done in Unity3D, for mobile and web deployment. The idea behind the game, is to provide multiple avenues of revenue generation through different types of businesses. At first, only a few unique businesses will exists, which I'm thinking aviation, electricity, and oil. A different style GUI would be displayed depending on what type of business you create, after a certain amount of time you can create subsidiary businesses under a conglomerate title. So that way, you could create a aviation company that feeds itself its own JP-8 (jet fuel) for air travel, e.g. free fuel. Switching between the two company GUI would be easy, such that you can't accidentally fire half your oil employees from the airline screen. However, there are risks with many companies, and certain governments might try to breakup the company into others (e.g. Monopoly control), of course the breakup companies would be sold for face value and 80% of the costs given back to the owner of the conglomerate. Additionally each city would be given a acreage value, or how many acres can be developed inside the city, limiting the number of businesses in New York City or other large cities. The turn style would be Sun-Sat each 24 hour period or 7 game hours per 1 real hour, or ~8min real time per 1 game hour. This way a full month is played every ~4.5 days. Basically a year is every 52 days. It won't really be turned based, but rather real time sped up to fit the games needs.

There are a lot of fun details that could be included in the game, that I would like to communicate with others to setup a master plan. That is where, you, the community comes in. A lot of development help is needed across many different specialties.

Most of my experiences are in business, so getting funding, paying people (when revenue exists), and project management. Professionally, I have experience in Meteorology and Mathematical sciences, so doing math and the weather are easy for me. Furthermore, I have a good amount of programming experience under my belt with a lot of mathematical work, however this experience is in educational or scientific applications, not the game industry. Unfortunately, my experiences with Unity3D is a bit inadequate, which I plan to re-vitalize over the next few months to get this project rolling.

As of right now, what I'm looking for is:
  • -Lead Programmer, who has unity3d experience
  • -2D/3D Artist, to develop the graphics side, most of the game will be 2D
  • -Programmer, unity3d experience is a plus! (To help with my workload)
  • -UI specialist
  • -Game Designer
  • -Interested parties
As of now, this project is in its infancy, so how things are setup from the get go are open for discussion. Other than Unity3D!

If you're interested in this project, please reply or send me a private message. I'd be more than happy to answer your question(s) and explain why working with me could be a ton of fun! (Stop thinking dirty things! )

Thank you for reading!
-Mel
