"NWE is not dead at all but if people think they need to move on, I completely understand. We have a prototype new website, a prototype new portal with market place and an NWE 1.2.0 (new look)/NWE 2.0.0(new structure). We also have a generic mobile client but I'm not happy with it's state, so it'll be a while for that. The web sites have been converted to .NET. Both NWE versions (still in PHP) are in a pre-alpha state and are being tested at Syracuse University. It is one of our several projects, so time is at a premium on any of them. I would note that we may shift domain locations in the coming weeks and may discontinue new sales for the time being. Any support the community can give to those new folks, is appreciated. At this point if you can't wait for us or find better alternatives, please take them. And I mean this, please take them. When we bring everything back up we plan on starting anew. A new NWE, a new focus with it. This will change the working scape of what some have come to expect in the past. Some people may prefer the old world, but that is gone. This will be a professional endeavor, not a hobby one. It is the only way to make it work. Fiscally and supportability. We hope you will check back at some point and we will be happy to earn back your respect."

I will support the old version for as long as I need but as soon as the "new" version comes out I am sure it will be supported on their site.

You know, I paid for that engine, and to see it swallowed up and then what I paid for get discarded, and probably be expected to pay for the new shiny version, I'm not happy. Will we be allowed to keep the old version for this community? If it's being re-coded and changed that much, would he be willing to give over the legacy version to us (so that those who paid for it can still get mods and help for it?)???

I have sent your comments to him and asked what will happen to the old version.

If so,I'll be happy to help support and build more modules for it. Or you can jump on KWM ENGINE the Pbbg version. It's almost done. I just need to add the basic essentials modules for it. It will be no typical pbbg, It's more customizable than NWE and cheaper.

Not the best reply

I'd rather not comment on any of this until we have all of our statements complete. However there are no plans to release code in any other fashion other than fully copyrighted. People will have to move on or wait. I leave it to them. There is not much more I can say on this at this time.

Thanx!
Greg

I will most likely not be supporting anything further from Greg. He had a commitment to the community and failed along with destroying the small community we were trying to keep around NWE.

I will continue work on Simple Engine.

Yes it's pretty sad he actually didn't act at all.

I look forward to seeing Simple Engine. I guess I'm done with NWE, and that investment was wasted. Meanwhile I'll just keep working on my own games, if anything, to practice coding and learn how to code better.

I replied to Greg about my disappointment and the communities disappointment and I might have said something about how he basically destroyed the small community we were trying to keep and he never replied back. Ugh. Oh well. We tried.

I really wonder why he want to hold this project and not sell it even for something small, as if he don't sell any license he would actually gain even less than selling for a small fee.

Another option for him would be to simply put it under open source, and I would guess that would make pretty much everyone here happy while removing the burden on him.
