I agree that they both have their own purposes for the reasons you stated. And I would be inclined to use fluid columns if needed, especially for huge amounts of text, but it would be within a fixed framework and not an entire fluid layout. But that's just how I want my site to look....which proves ...

Well I studied fixed vs. fluid layouts when designing my site and tried both, but ultimately went with a fixed width layout. EDIT: Don't know if you are aware, but when viewing the forum pages in IE, an empty image box is sitting over the Indie-Resource.com title at the top of the page. Doesn't appear in FF.

Not sure if you have had them in the past, but how about a chat room or rooms? Would make a good point of contact and may draw people in as I don't know of any other resource site like this that has a chat room. I installed flashchat http://www.tufat.com/script2.htm on my phpbb3 forum, it's a breeze...
