Well I know you said 3D, but if you don't mind playing a nice 2D game you should definitely try out Haven and Hearth. Lots of fun, plus it's made by indies!

Ya, that's extremely important for when your new. There's also hunting to get used to combat as well, although many animals can kill you with ease.

I forgot to add that the game is currently in an open Alpha, so there are down times and the like. The game also features a complete PVP world with perma-death. This is actually the one game where the combat system will take you days just to barely understand it, and the PVP is fully skill based rat...
