A great example of this is on Forbes when reading an article, as well as YouTube, when finding a video, after 0.5/1 seconds on pageload, sponsored videos take the first and second place on the list - 7/10 times I click on the sponsored video instead of my intended one.

Should you convert it to use mysqli api rather than mysql? Yes. Vanilla mysql_* functions are deprecated and will be dropped, therefore once your hosting provider (or you) upgrade your PHP version somewhere in the near future, your application won't work anymore. Thanks OldRod for the information. I believe I will be using parallax scrolling for this. So my question is should I use some already made graphics rendering engine or just build my own? I have built a 2d rpg world rendering engine before so rendering engines but that was around 10years ago in vb6....
