I use http://www.upcloud.com in order to get my hands dirty on the server itself. It's a Virtual Cloud Server provider, that has it's costs per use, I guess it was on hour-base. How about adding a session-random salt that is used during login and then the server retrieves the sha-password with salt, and it decyphers it against sha(password+session_salt)? [CLIENT] when session is opened, server stores a random salt generated, also server writes this to an html/js field or so...

session_start() needs to be the first thing written to the 'page'. Same as in location(). example: Doesn't work: <?PHP echo "hello"; session_start(); ?> Works: <?PHP session_start(); echo "hello"; ?> Usually it's something with the includes that mess this up, as Xaleph mentioned....

Just to say that you don't need all the data in order to do a simulation. Do it in chunks, aggregate and summarize. When you talk about economic simulation, i expect you also have time-dimension involved, 300 million rows in memory and then you actually do something with them, sounds a bit far fetch...
