Re: HTML5 Game Development Course
Yes, the first Unit is now live and it basically covers Canvas and DOM manipulation. There is also a crash course in JavaScript to get people up to speed on some of the JS they will be using. Nothing too strenuous. I managed to complete the Unit in one day as many of the videos were very short. The ...

Re: Autodesk Products FREE for students (LEGIT)
The student license does not allow you to produce commercial products. Unless this is something new with Autodesk, the student versions usually expire after a certain time period, like 36 months.

Re: HTML5 Game Development Course
I am currently taking the Intro to Computer Science (CS101) course at Udacity and it is completely free. There is no paid certification at the end as some other sites like Alison.com and W3School have. Since the CS101 class was offered last year, I was able to go through the course at my own pace an...

I also tinkered around with Dragon Knight engine and intended to heavily modify it into a Sci-Fi based game. I have been meaning to implement more HTML5 graphical elements into it, but got sidetracked. This is as far as I got xcalpro.com/gtraders

Re: Ideas for a contest
Another problem with having an open "one month" contest is that some people already may have a game close to finishing which would give then an advantage to someone starting from scratch. If you do plan to have a contest with a time frame, then you will need to establish specific guideline...

Re: HTML5 Game Development Course
This will be my first Udacity course, but I have taken courses on Coursera, Code Academy, Alison, and Code School. The way they usually work is, you are given some video lectures to watch and then you do some related assignment to test your knowledge. The assignments can range from entering some cod...

Re: Javascript- open window in same window
Looking through their page source code, you can see they are using XHTML with jQuery being used to manipulate the DOM elements. If you go to www.codeschool.com you can take a really nice course on JQuery for free which shows you how to use JQuery to add or remove window elements.

Re: Why every game like last game?
Also what makes "theme park" games more common is the simple fact that the cost to create them is less than a "sandbox" game. You have to remember that all those actions and possibilities have to be programmed into the game. To make a truly open-ended game requires large amounts ...

Pro HTML5 Games
Came across this site http://www.adityaravishankar.com/pro-html5-games/ which is the author of Pro HTML5 Games book. This book covers everything I have been looking for as far as learning to create games in HTML5 with JavaScript. This guy even managed to recreate Command & Conquer in HTML5. Pret...
