Re: Vagrant

We use vagrant at work to set up our development environments, but we don't deploy with it. Honestly if I had to pick a tool for this purpose I'd choose Docker (https://www.docker.com/).

Wow... This may get me to actually try it out.

Re: Different UI/Frameworks

Bootstrap is great, and very easy to pickup. Probably the easiest in fact. jQuery UI is not really a full UI framework, so much as a collection of supplemental features. The last time I messed with it was a long time ago, but at the time it was very heavy for what it did - almost all of which you ca...

Re: MUD games

Where are you guys getting these stats? On TMC's list I'm seeing Aardwolf as having around 200 players online at any given time - which for a text game is pretty impressive. But the game has been around since '96, so it's had a ton of time to grow into what it is now. I'll say that I'm not really co...

Re: MUD games

Hmmm... well maybe once I have an early prototype of the client I can share it and you guys can give it a try and tell me what it's lacking. I think trial and error is probably the only way to really merge these things successfully, since I'm not sure if it's really been done in the way I'm envision...

Re: MUD games

So Jack, would you be against having to enter any text commands at all? I'm sort of on the fence about that. I want to be able to enter text commands, but I want the UI to be smart enough to autocomplete for me in a lot of situations. And I want processes like inventory management to be handled thro...

Re: MUD games

-snip-. This is sort of what I mean. Bringing the MUD style game into sort of a next-gen. The die hard MUD fans seem to be against these sort of changes - citing ease of access as one of the main reasons for sticking with old MUD clients and architecture. What I want to have is the text-based comma...

MUD games

MUDs; anyone around here play them? What is your general opinion of MUDs? Do you think that bringing one into a next-gen, browser based environment would be a draw to the genre? I see games like Achaea doing very well with their browser clients - although I'm not sure what the backend is written in.

Re: GitHub?

Yes, both bitbucket and github allow private repositories, but they have some restrictions. On Github, you pay for private repositories and a limited number of people (that you designate) can access them. In bitbucket, you can have an unlimited number of private repositories that only you can access...
